Everyone needs a vacay

Did you know that an event coordinator is listed as the #6 most stressful job in 2012 on Forbes?

It’s important to take care of yourself. I was reminded of this when reading this Event Manager Blog post: How to Relieve Event Planning Stress. Reinventing Events loves to mix things up with fun trips to the spa, Ram’s Gate winery, and getting blow outs at Drybar. But sometimes, we need to take a break and step away from the laptop.

Karen and I decided that we would spend a week on a beach, planning for 2013. Looking for a all-inclusive resort that we could fly to via our favorite airline, Virgin America, we wanted luxury relaxation combined with fun entertainment. Dreams Puerta Vallarta Resort and Spa was the winner. The unlimited food and drinks, full schedule of daily activities, gorgeous private beach, and the Entertainment team made our well deserved workcation perfect.

Whether it was beach volleyball, tennis lessons, poker games, lounging by the pool, or just laying in the sun, we always had something to do at the resort. The Entertainment team always strived to make sure we had fun. They participated in evening events such as Caribbean night, a live show with latin dancers, and a fire show with fire dancers and performers. The Entertainment team engaged us as guests to have as much fun as possible and we did!

Dreams Resorts & Spas takes every measure to ensure the continued safety and protection of the turtles through involvement with local protection agencies.

One of my favorite memories of the trip was the Dreaming of Freedom Turtle Program:

From approximately June through October, mother Kemp’s Ridley Turtles will visit the beach to lay their eggs. You can have the opportunity to take part in the daily turtle release event, by holding a tiny baby turtle in the palm of your hand and interacting with it before setting it free into the sea!

Karen named her turtle ‘Pokey,’ (for obvious reasons: he was slow) and I named my turtle ‘Freddie.’

Taking a vacation always gives you a fresh start. With such an addiction to technology, it’s hard to let go and go offline for a few days. We can reassure you from our recent travels that it is just what you need to revive your senses. CNN’s article, “We dare you to take a real vacation” from August 2012 agrees:

If you get away, it allows your brain to relax and allows all these other things you know that you haven’t thought of in awhile and don’t think are related to what you’re doing and to come to the forefront naturally.

We agree with CNN and dare you to take a vacation and get offline for a break.

Meet us in Mexico! Reinventing Events is planning the co-traveling experience of Entretrip, which offers entrepreneurs, freelancers and small business owners a chance to step away from normal routines and bond in a way that no conference or networking event can offer. Think of it as “summer camp” for entrepreneurs. In April 17-21 2013, a small group will gather for Entretrip II at the Azul Beach Hotel in Puerto Morelos, Mexico near Cancun. We’ll enjoy four days in a small all-inclusive beach resort soaking up the sun and bonding with like-minded business owners.
