Thirsty Thursday – Virgin Sangria

Some drinks out there are so delicious they don’t even require alcohol! You can of course make them alcoholic, but from time to time on the Thirsty Thursday blog series we’ll provide some non-alcoholic options too. This week’s drink of choice is White Sangria, done mocktail-style.

Here’s what you’ll need for a 1 gallon pitcher:

1 bottle apple juice or white grape juice
1 bottle of lemon-lime soda, ginger ale, sparkling cider (for sweeter sangria) or soda water (for a less sweet option)
Optional: Muddle fresh mint, basil, or rosemary for a kick of freshness
**To make this drink alcoholic just swap out the juice and soda for one bottle each of white wine and sparkling white wine!

Suggested Fruits
Citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, limes)
Berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
Apples, peaches, grapes, cherries (pitted) or other fruit on hand sliced thin, peel on
Remember, you can’t go wrong with what you’re adding, if you only have apples and oranges, use those!

1. Thoroughly wash all fruit and slice into thin rounds or small chunks and add to large pitcher. Peels can be left on for added flavor, but remove any seeds!
2. Pour in juice and stir. Slowly pour in sparkling drink (champagne, soda or cider), and any additional herbs you’d like to add.
3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours
4. Serve over ice and enjoy!

If you want to do something easy, yet special, get a Citrus Zester to add fancy garnishes like you get at your favorite cocktail bar.

Don’t have a pitcher? We found this one on World Market’s website that adds some color AND is a great deal.
